Writer’s block to an author
is like sunshine to a vampire
Whether this is your first Scarlett newsletter from me, or you’ve been with me since the beginning, I would like to thank you for reading this email.
To all my regulars, it has been over a month since I wrote to you last – apologies for my absence, I will explain.
Writer’s block to an author is like sunshine to a vampire, it’s to be avoided at all costs. I have been hit lately by a fair few challenges and as a result my usual writing muse, the one who happily joins me every day decided it was time for a break in our relationship, and it upped and left me dry.
It took two days for it to sink in and to become a problem. I told Jane. She then spoke with Hugo (if you don’t know, Hugo is my boyfriend and Jane my girlfriend, check out the link at the bottom of this email for past stories about the three of us. Warning some of the content is hot reading!).
So, they had a very long telephone conversation. Between them, they took over my seemingly latest challenge. Well Jane did, Hugo was to be away on a military training exercise for over three weeks.
Jane and I had talked about going off to a meditation retreat in the New Year, and with my latest blockage in full effect, she took it upon herself to bring this forward and booked us in for four whole weeks!
I hit the roof when I found out, and, we had a big fight. Through my thick-headed stubbornness, my hesitancy to fix my own problems only made my case stronger for Jane. She called Hugo again for a major intervention. She spoke less than half-dozen words to him, then handed me the telephone. After some time, I gave in to them both, and her deal was sealed, and her point made.
She gave me strict instructions for our spiritual vacation and made me promise to behave. She let me have only 20-minutes of Internet use a day (a miracle I survived). I was to sleep nine-hours each night, next to impossible, five-hours is usually all I achieve, again I was adding more weight to her argument. If I had ideas about writing, I was allowed only to jot them down freehand in my journal for the first half of our stay.
So, we were off to the remote meditation retreat in a beautiful chateau in rural France. The first two weeks were hard, I really did have some habits which were hard to break.
Instead, I drew strength from my time alone with Jane, and she was the one who pulled me through. The love she gave me was more than I’d ever expected from another woman.
For someone so strong she has shown me a side of herself no other person is likely to have the pleasure of seeing. She is not the independent army captain anymore. We have made changes to both our lives. She keeps my mind and body health, and I even got her wearing dresses, without underwear of course.
At the beginning of the third week, I was given access to my laptop so I could write. I was allowed two, half-hour stints a day. It was a challenge to get all my ideas out in this short time frame. In doing so, Jane had exercised my demons and had me back writing again.
After all, this was the purpose of our retreat, and she helped me like no other person ever has. I now share my love of mindfulness meditation with her, and it has become our morning and night-time rituals together. Once a practice which would separate our worlds, is now a lovely shared experience.
My regular writing muse has rejoined me, and I’m back home, up to full speed again. I took a month off from my daily life and the second to best part was finding some peace of mind, giving the old gray matter a rest and the recharging my mental batteries.
What was the best part I hear you ask? Sharing my bed and my days with Jane.
Over the last few days, I have been putting together part two of the further adventures of Brittney who enjoyed her evenings being a vampire super groupie. Things have shifted for her and her sidekick. Her role in the vampire community has moved on somewhat.
Part two will be available soon, and I will keep you posted as to when it will be published. Part one, Brittney the Vampire Groupie is available as a Kindle Unlimited read at Amazon, so get it and read it today if you haven’t already.
My soft lesbian romance stories, Finding Grace (part one) and Lies About Me (part two) are also available as Kindle Unlimited reads on Amazon. Go and pick them both up right now.
If you think your friends would enjoy a touch of our communal spiciness, please share it with them on Facebook, Twitter or perhaps in person, or by email. Yes, by email, forward it now and shock your friends, and let them sit or lie back (maybe) and enjoy it too.
